zlatno mlijeko

kako/

golden milk

Golden milk is a traditional Ayurvedic drink that is traditionally made from turmeric rhizome, black pepper, oil or ghee and milk. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and has been used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicines for a broad spectrum of indications. To enhance its medicinal properties, it should be combined with black pepper, as piperine form pepper helps our bodies absorb curcumin form turmeric. So nice that it is healthy, but this drink is also really tasty... I've been making it with cinnamon lately, to give it some heating properties and make it a super cozy winter combination. It is recommended to make golden milk with a bit of coconut oil because curcumin is oil-soluble, but I can't really drink fatty things, so I chose to believe that the oil naturally present in coconut milk is enough.

what/
1/2 cup oat milk
1/2 cup full-fat coconut milk
2/3 tsp turmeric powder
1/5 tsp (or a sprinkle of) ground black pepper
1/3 tsp ground Ceylon cinnamon
1 tsp maple syrup or honey

how/
Pour both milks in a pot, add the spices and bring to a boil over a low heat. Stir it well, remove from the heat and let it sit until it cools down enough to be pleasant for drinking. Add the sweetener of choice, stir and enjoy this super cozy drink.

If you fall in love with golden milk and decide to have it every day, you can also make a jar of turmeric paste in advance - just mix turmeric, pepper and cinnamon (or your choice of spices) with maple syrup and some coconut oil. To make golden milk, just dissolve a heaping teaspoon of this paste in a cup of warm or hot plant milk.
